Dr Scott Smith

BDS FRACDS MOrthRCS DocClinDent(Ortho)

Dr Scott Smith is our principal orthodontist here and boasts a dental career spanning over 30 years. He started Scott Smith Orthodontics (SSO) in 2008 with the aim to provide dedicated community based specialist orthodontic care in Launceston and the northwest coast of Tasmania.

Graduating with a dental degree (BDS) from the University of Adelaide in 1992, Scott completed his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS) in 1999. Scott then dedicated eight years to paediatric dental care as a hospital staff dentist, lecturer to the University of Adelaide and head of the dental unit at the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Experienced in working with children and teenagers, Scott is a fantastic communicator.

In 2006, Scott completed a three-year, full-time postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry (DocClinDent(Ortho)), qualifying him as a specialist in orthodontics. Scott is an avid road cyclist and mountain biker. Outside of work, you will often spot him out and about around Launceston and the north coast on his bike.

Professional memberships

Scott is a nationally registered orthodontist and a member by examination of the following organisations: 

• Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS)
• Member in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh, UK) (MOrthRCS)
• Certified member of the Australian Orthodontic Board with his specialist practice dedicated solely to orthodontics 

Scott maintains professional registration and membership of:

• Australian Dental Association (ADA)
• Australian Society of Orthodontics (ASO)
• Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
