Welcome › Braces

Braces are used to align teeth into their correct position by using constant force and gentle pressure. Braces are often used to correct bad bites (malocclusions), including under-bites, over-bites, cross bites, open bites, deep bites and various other flaws of the teeth and jaws, whether cosmetic or structural.

Braces consist of two main components, brackets and wires. Brackets are specially shaped pieces of metal or ceramic designed to carry the arch wire. The brackets are glued to the front of each tooth and the main arch wire connects the brackets. The wires on your braces help to move your teeth, and rubber bands are often used to help to correct the alignment.

The length of time someone will need to wear their braces differs from patient to patient. On average, people usually wear braces for up to 2 years which is usually followed by a retainer.
